Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, and you can tell. Its rich history has left its mark in many sights. The historic, walled city centre is full of churches, monumental mansions and big squares. Maastricht is not massive which means you can walk everywhere.
It also means shops and restaurants are never far away. The old town is a great backdrop for a day of shopping. The many known, but even more unknown little boutiques have turned the city into a walhalla for fashionistas and shopaholics. Gourmets will also like it here: from inviting lunchrooms, Michelin-star restaurants and everything in between.
Or do you fancy some art? Then you should check out Bonnefanten museum, Maastricht's principal art museum. And don't forget the Natural history Museum, Architecture Institute Maastricht and Fort Sint Pieter.
If you're feeling more adventurous, take a tour of Maastricht's underground network. A boat trip on the river Maas is also a guaranteed success.
